The short answer

All eleven providers here rent servers in Russian data centers, bill in rubles and accept Russian bank cards. The right one depends on budget, billing and location:

  • Timeweb Cloud if you need a full cloud: hourly billing, managed databases and Kubernetes, with regions in St. Petersburg, Moscow and Novosibirsk.
  • FirstVDS or AdminVPS for an ordinary Moscow VPS from a long-running host, from 299 and 349 RUB a month.
  • FirstByte, UltraVDS or MaCloud if price comes first: 129 RUB a month, 135 RUB a month or 5 RUB a day.
  • SmartApe, Hostiman or 1Gb.ru to test first: free VPS trials of 10, 14 and 10 days.
  • VDSina for daily billing with 2 GB RAM in the base plan, Profitserver for a server in Chelyabinsk.

Why rent a VPS in Russia, and how to choose

A server in Russia makes sense when your visitors or the APIs you call are there: the round trip is shorter than to Frankfurt. Companies covered by Russia's personal data law (152-FZ) also need personal data of Russian citizens stored in databases located in Russia.

What we compared:

  • Russian location. Most hosts here are Moscow-only; Timeweb Cloud adds St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk, Profitserver has Chelyabinsk.
  • Price and billing. Monthly, daily and hourly prices are different deals; daily or hourly billing makes short tests cheap.
  • What the entry plan includes. 512 MB of RAM runs a tiny service; a site with a database wants 2 GB.
  • Payment methods. Russian cards, Mir and SBP are standard; foreign cards, PayPal and crypto are where hosts differ.
  • Trial, refunds and rules. Free tests, refund terms and identity checks vary a lot.

Rules to know before you order a Russian VPS

  • Identity checks. FirstVDS, UltraVDS, Hostiman, Profitserver and FirstByte may ask for documents; register with real data.
  • Network filtering. FirstVDS warns that filtering by Russian regulators can affect HTTPS, SSH and RDP connections.
  • Blocked IP fines. MaCloud and VDSina charge 3,000 RUB per IP address blocked by Russian authorities because of the client's use.
  • Prepaid balances. Servers stop when the balance runs out; VDSina may delete data after 24 hours.
  • Refunds range from a full refund in the first week (Hostiman) to none for paid services (MaCloud).

More providers, including those outside Russia, are in hosting and cloud services.
