What is InterServer?

InterServer was co-founded in 1999 by Mike Lavrik and John Quaglieri. It started from a reseller account and grew into shared hosting, cloud VPS, dedicated servers, colocation, email and storage. The company is based in New Jersey and runs its services in three U.S. regions: the New York City metro area, Dallas and Los Angeles.

The product line covers:

  • Standard Web Hosting with DirectAdmin, plus reseller, ASP.NET (Windows), cPanel, email-only, nonprofit and student hosting
  • Cloud VPS sold in slices: Linux (KVM), Windows Server and storage VPS
  • Dedicated servers: ready-to-order "Buy It Now" machines and custom builds
  • Colocation and remote backup storage

Support is advertised as 24/7 live help from InterServer's own team.

Who InterServer suits

  • Site owners who dislike long prepayments. Shared hosting can be paid month to month, and the VPS has no yearly lock-in at all.
  • Small businesses and bloggers who want unlimited storage, email and free migration on one plan.
  • Developers who need a Linux or Windows VPS with root access and want to grow it slice by slice.
  • Teams with U.S. audiences. All three regions are in the United States, which is a minus if your visitors are mainly in Europe or Asia.

Web hosting plan and pricing

InterServer sells one shared plan, Standard Web Hosting, instead of a ladder of tiers. It includes unlimited storage, data transfer, email and FTP accounts, weekly backups, CloudLinux, SSD caching with LSCache and QUIC, free Cloudflare CDN, SSL, the InterShield firewall and malware scanning, and 461 one-click app installers.

Term First payment Renews at
1 month $2.50 $7 per month
6 months $15 $42
12 months $30 $84
24 months $60 $168

A domain costs $7.99 with any web hosting package, and new customers can ask for a free website transfer. "Unlimited" has fair-use limits in the terms: one account may not use more than 20% of a server's resources or more than 400,000 inodes, and file archives, video-sharing clones and image-upload sites are not allowed on shared hosting.

Cloud VPS and dedicated servers

A VPS is built from slices. One slice costs $3 a month and adds 1 CPU core, 2 GB of RAM, 40 GB of SSD storage and 2 TB of transfer on a shared 10Gbps port; you can order from 1 to 32 slices and add more later.

Slices Price Cores RAM SSD Transfer
1 $3/mo 1 2 GB 40 GB 2 TB
4 $12/mo 2 8 GB 160 GB 8 TB
8 $24/mo 4 16 GB 320 GB 16 TB
16 $48/mo 8 32 GB 640 GB 32 TB
32 $96/mo 16 64 GB 1280 GB 64 TB

Every VPS has root (Linux) or administrator (Windows) access and a static IP; Windows VPS starts at $10 a month. Billing is monthly only: there is no quarterly or yearly discount. Managed support (help with services, databases, control panels and uptime) is included from 8 slices; smaller VPS plans are self-managed. Webuzo, DirectAdmin, cPanel and Plesk can be added as panels, and CPU mining is not allowed on VPS.

Dedicated servers come with network-level DDoS protection and IPMI access. Stocked "Buy It Now" machines are discounted and ready quickly; for example, an AMD Ryzen 5950X with 32 GB RAM, 250 GB NVMe and an unmetered 1Gbps port in the NYC region was listed at $74 a month.

Refunds, billing and good to know

  • Automatic renewal. Cancel at least 3 days before the renewal date in the customer portal, or the service renews for another term.
  • Payment methods: credit card, PayPal, or check/money order.
