Which AI video generator should you pick?

"AI video generator" covers three different jobs, and the three tools here each lead in one of them:

  • Elai.io if you need a talking presenter for training, onboarding or explainer videos and you start from a script, a PowerPoint deck or an article. It has 80+ stock avatars on every plan, including the free one, and translation into 75+ languages. You pay by the minute: Creator is $29 a month for 15 minutes ($23 a month billed annually).
  • Fliki if you want narrated videos built from stock visuals, AI images, music and subtitles, and the voice matters more than a face on screen. It lists 2,000+ AI voices in 80+ languages. Standard is $28 a month for 180 credits, or about $21 a month billed yearly.
  • Akool if you want avatars together with face swap, video translation and third-party generation models such as Kling, Veo and Sora behind one credit balance. Starter is $12 a month on yearly billing for 200 credits.

All three have a free plan; test with your own script first, because refunds are strict at all three.

Three kinds of AI video generator

First decide which kind of video you need:

  1. Avatar (presenter) videos. You paste a script and a digital presenter reads it on screen with lip-synced speech. Typical for training, walkthroughs and sales explainers. Elai.io is built around it; Akool and Fliki offer avatars as one feature among many.
  2. Narrated stock-footage videos. A voiceover runs over stock clips, AI images, captions and music. Typical for YouTube explainers, faceless channels and social ads. Fliki is built around it.
  3. Generative clips. A text or image prompt becomes a short, newly generated scene. Akool's Model Hub gives access to third-party models such as Seedance, Kling, Sora, Google Veo, Flux and Nano Banana, all billed in Akool credits; Fliki also says it plugs in video models from providers such as OpenAI, Google, Kling and ByteDance.

If you only need short clips cut from a long recording rather than a new video, that is a different tool: see our guide to the best AI clip makers. More options are in our best AI tools category.

How to choose: what we compared

Facts come from the providers' pricing pages and terms, read in October 2026:

  • Price model. Elai.io sells video minutes. Fliki and Akool sell credits that different features burn at different rates. In the table we quote the cheapest paid plan with its billing period, because annual billing changes the price a lot: about 20% off at Elai.io, 25% at Fliki and about 30% at Akool.
  • What a minute really costs. Translate credits into your format. On Fliki a stock avatar costs 0.25 credits per second, which is 15 credits per minute, so Standard's 180 credits cover about 12 minutes of avatar video; a voiceover alone costs 0.25 to 2 credits per minute depending on the voice. Elai.io Creator works out to $1.93 a minute on monthly billing. Akool publishes example equivalents (200 Starter credits are listed as about 20 Kling 3.0 videos) rather than a per-minute avatar rate.
  • Free plan. Whether you can export a real test video, at what resolution and with what watermark.
  • Limits that bite. Maximum video length, resolution, the number of voice clones or custom avatars, and whether unused minutes or credits roll over.
  • Rights. Whether commercial use is included.
  • Refunds and cancellation. How much room you have after paying.

Elai.io: avatar videos from scripts, slides and articles

Elai.io, from Elai, Inc. in Pittsburgh (the company says it is part of Panopto), is aimed at learning and development teams. You build a video from text, from a PPTX file (each slide becomes an editable scene) or from an article URL, and an avatar presents it. Features include 80+ stock avatars, an AI Storyboard, two-avatar dialogs, an API, voice cloning in 28 languages and translation into 75+ languages.

On the Elai.io pricing page, Free costs $0 and includes 1 video minute with the stock avatar library. Creator costs $29 a month, or $23 a month billed annually ($276 a year), for 15 minutes a month in Full HD. Team costs $125 a month, or $100 a month annually ($1,200 a year), for 50 minutes a month, 4K output, 3 editors and 3 guests, premium voices, 1 selfie avatar and 1 voice clone. Extra minutes are $2 each on paid plans. A selfie avatar costs $199 a year and voice cloning $200 a year as add-ons below Team.

Elai.io plans with monthly billing: Free $0 with 1 video minute, Creator $29 with 15 minutes, Team $125 with 50 minutes, Enterprise custom
Elai.io pricing page (monthly billing), October 2026

Pick Elai.io if you produce presenter-style training or explainer videos and want to reuse slide decks you already have. The downside: minutes are tight (15 a month on Creator), they do not roll over, there is no pay-as-you-go option, and the terms make all fees non-refundable. Details in our Elai.io review.

Fliki: narrated videos with the biggest voice library

Fliki (Nine Thirty Five LLC, Delaware) takes a script, a blog post, a slide deck or a one-line idea, and assembles a video with stock or AI-generated visuals, an AI voiceover, music and subtitles. It also does voice cloning, dubbing, AI avatars, video podcasts with AI hosts and reframing for vertical or widescreen.

The Fliki pricing page lists Free with 3 credits a month, exports up to 5 minutes at 720p with a Fliki watermark and 300 standard voices; no credit card is needed. Standard costs $28 a month for 180 credits, exports up to 15 minutes in 1080p, 1,000 voices, 1 voice clone, limited stock avatars and commercial rights. Premium costs $88 a month for 600 credits, exports up to 40 minutes, 2,000+ voices, 3 voice clones, all AI avatars and API access. Yearly billing takes 25% off, which brings Standard to about $21 and Premium to about $66 a month.

Credits depend on what you generate. According to Fliki's credits guide, voiceover costs 0.25 to 2 credits per minute by voice tier, a stock avatar 0.25 credits per second, and AI video clips 0.1 to 6 credits per second depending on model and resolution. Re-generating after you edit text or voice settings uses credits again.

Pick Fliki if your videos are voice-led: explainers, faceless social content, audiobooks or blog-to-video, especially in several languages. The downside: avatar and generative footage burn credits quickly, and the terms say paid periods are not refunded except case by case. More in our Fliki review.

Akool: avatars, face swap and video models in one account

Akool, from Akool, Inc. in California, is a browser studio that bundles talking avatars and photos, face and clothing swap, video translation, voice clone, text-to-video and image-to-video, a Shorts Studio and a Model Hub with third-party models. Developers get an OpenAPI and an MCP command-line tool from the Pro Max plan.

On the Akool pricing page prices are per seat. The free plan gives 720p output, videos up to 10 minutes, a full-screen watermark, 5 GB of storage and one instant avatar. Starter costs $12 a month billed yearly ($144) for 200 credits a month, 1080p and videos up to 15 minutes. Pro is $30 a month, or $21 billed yearly, for 600 credits, 4K and 30-minute videos. Pro Max is $59 a month, or $41.30 yearly, for 1,200 credits, longer videos and API access. Business is $249 a month, or $174.30 yearly, for 6,000 credits and a business license; the lower tiers carry a personal license.

Pick Akool if you want to experiment across formats (an avatar ad today, a face swap or a translated clip tomorrow, a Kling or Veo scene next week) without separate subscriptions. The downside: credits from a subscription do not roll over, a business license starts only at the $249 Business plan, and cancellation is by email at least 24 hours before renewal. Read our Akool review for the refund details.

Well-known alternatives: Synthesia and HeyGen

Two big names come up in most searches for an AI avatar video generator. They are not in our table; their own pricing pages list:

  • Synthesia has a free Basic plan with 10 minutes of video a month, 9 avatars and a watermark. Starter is $19 a month, or $14 a month billed yearly, and Pro is $89 a month, or $59 billed yearly.
  • HeyGen has a free plan with 3 watermarked videos a month, each up to 1 minute. Creator is $29 a month, Pro $49 and Business $149.

Both are avatar-first, like Elai.io, so compare their minutes with Elai.io's Creator and Team plans.

Before you pay: refunds, rights and your likeness

  • Test on the free plan first. Elai.io's terms make all fees non-refundable. Fliki does not refund the period already paid, though it may consider some requests case by case. Akool refunds a first subscription purchase or credit pack within 7 days only if no paid credits from it were used.
  • Unused minutes and credits expire. Elai.io minutes and Akool subscription credits do not carry over to the next period, so size the plan to your real monthly output.
  • Check the license. Fliki lists commercial rights from Standard; Akool's lower tiers are personal and the business license starts at Business.
  • Use only faces and voices you have rights to. Custom avatars and voice clones should be of you or of people who agreed. Akool's terms forbid impersonation and require any releases needed to use someone's likeness commercially.
