What is Paperpal?

Paperpal describes itself as "the AI writing tool built for academic research". Its main tools:

• Grammar check with academic-style language and tone suggestions, plus consistency checks.
• Plagiarism check that compares your text against 99B+ sources, and AI detection.
• Paraphrase, Trim and Translate tools to restructure sentences and cut word count.
• Research and Cite: Q&A over 250M+ research articles and citation lookup in APA, MLA, Vancouver and other styles (10,000+ styles listed).
• Library and chat with PDFs: upload your references and ask questions about them.
• Submission checks: 30+ pre-submission checks, journal fit and reference checks.
• Illustrate (beta): AI-assisted figure generation.

Paperpal works in MS Word (add-in), Google Docs and Overleaf (via Chrome and Edge extensions) and on the web.

Who it's for

Paperpal targets researchers, faculty and students who write papers, theses and coursework in English, and it also offers institutional licences for universities and a separate product for publishers. The Prime plan is pitched "for academic writing and coursework all year round"; Pro is "for high-stakes work: papers, theses, clinical documents".

On privacy, Paperpal states that your files are visible only to you, that your work is never used to train AI, and that you can delete files at any time. The site shows FERPA, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 compliance badges.

Paperpal shows prices in your local currency, with monthly or annual billing, so the amount depends on your country. The monthly limits per plan:

Promo code, billing and refunds

Promo code PAP20 gives 20% off Paperpal plans. Discount codes are applied at checkout. Payment is by debit, credit or prepaid card through Stripe, and subscriptions auto-renew on the cycle you chose until you cancel them on the Membership & Billing page.

Refunds: if you cancel within 30 days of a first-time annual subscription or 7 days of a first-time monthly subscription, you are eligible for a refund; after that no refunds are given and the plan runs until expiry. You can move from monthly to annual mid-cycle, with the unused balance credited pro rata.

Paperpal affiliate program

Anyone with an academic audience (students, researchers, educators, influencers) can join the Paperpal affiliate program; you don't need to be a Paperpal user. Terms from the affiliate page:

• 30% commission, non-recurring, on each Paperpal Prime purchase through your link, calculated on the price after discount.
• 60-day cookie window.
• A discount coupon of up to 20% on Prime for your audience, available in the dashboard.
• Sign-up and tracking run on TrackDesk.
• Payouts via Payoneer (preferred) or PayPal, with a $50 minimum, after a 31-day hold; calculated on the first working day of each month and paid by the 15th.

Payoneer has restrictions for Russian residents, so affiliates there may not be able to receive payouts that way.
