What is Shockbyte?
Shockbyte is run by Shockbyte PTY LTD (ABN 40 626 765 455), based in Melbourne, Australia. According to its About page, it was founded in March 2013 by Mitch Smith, who started it as a teenager, and it began by hosting only Minecraft servers.
Today the catalog covers Minecraft Java and Bedrock, modded Minecraft and many other multiplayer games, including Project Zomboid, 7 Days to Die, Enshrouded, Unturned, Don't Starve Together, Barotrauma, The Front and HumanitZ. Check the games list for the title you need.
Advertised features: one-click modpack installs from CurseForge, FTB, Technic and ATLauncher; DDoS protection covered by its SLA; 24/7 support; 13 server regions; full FTP access and automatic backups on larger plans.
Who it's for
Shockbyte suits players and small communities who want a managed game server without running their own machine: friends who need a small Minecraft world (the 1–2 GB tiers), modded Minecraft players (modded plans start at Redstone 6 GB, then Emerald 8 GB and Obsidian 9 GB), and groups running other survival games on the same account. It is a game server panel, not a general-purpose VPS.
Shockbyte pricing at a glance
Minecraft plans come in two lines. Figures below are from Shockbyte's own comparison page (October 2026); prices vary by currency and region, so confirm on the Minecraft plans page before buying.
| Plan line | Hardware | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Lower-cost hardware | $1.99/month for 1 GB |
| Premium (Dirt, Sand, Cobblestone … up to 17 GB+ custom) | Standard | List price about $4 per GB; a 30% recurring checkout discount brings 1 GB Dirt to $2.79/month |
Examples from the same page: a 2 GB server is about $3.99/month on Budget and $5.59/month on Premium; 8 GB is about $15.99 on Budget and $22.39 on Premium. Shockbyte also advertises 50% off for annual billing.
Limits to note: the 2 GB plan includes no backup slots, and disk space is capped (10 GB on the 2 GB plan, up to 100 GB on 16 GB plans and above).
Refunds and account rules
From the Terms of Service (last updated 28 August 2026):
- 72-hour refund. A new service can be refunded if you cancel within 72 hours of ordering and state a reason. The 72 hours run from the order to the moment the cancellation is submitted. Each client can use this policy once.
- Self-serve. The control panel has a self-serve refund button inside the 72-hour window; if it is not shown, contact support. Refunds can take up to 72 hours to arrive.
- After 72 hours refunds are at Shockbyte's discretion.
- Stay responsive. If Shockbyte messages you, reply within 48 hours; missing it can void refund eligibility outside the first 72 hours.
