How to get started

  1. Open Instatus through the referral link on this page; the referral is tracked by the link itself, with no code to type.
  2. Sign up with your email (Instatus sends a magic link) or with a Google account.
  3. Name your status page and pick its subdomain; a custom domain is available on paid plans.
  4. Add components and monitors (website, API, cron, ping, TCP/UDP or DNS) and invite your team.
  5. Stay on the free Starter plan, or start a trial of Pro or Business when you need more monitors, faster checks or SMS alerts.

What is Instatus?

Instatus (instatus.com) is a SaaS tool for telling users whether your service is up. It combines three things in one product:

  • Status pages. Public pages, private pages, and pages shown only to a selected audience. You can customize the design, add components (including third-party components), post notices and scheduled maintenance, show metrics, embed widgets, publish in multiple languages and use a custom domain.
  • Monitoring. Website, API, cron, ping, TCP & UDP and DNS checks, with alerts and a mobile app.
  • Incident response. Incidents, maintenance and templates, plus on-call schedules, escalation policies and routing rules. Teams can act on incidents from Slack and Microsoft Teams.

The company behind it is Instatus, Inc. There is a documented API covering monitors, incidents, status pages, components, subscribers, metrics and on-call schedules.

Who it's for

Instatus suits SaaS products, developer tools, APIs and hosting or infrastructure teams that need a place to announce outages and maintenance, and a way to let customers subscribe to updates.

Subscribers can be notified by email, SMS, webhook, X, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, RSS/Atom or the API. If you already use another monitoring tool, Instatus integrates with Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, PagerDuty, Pingdom, Prometheus, Uptime Robot and others, so incidents from those tools can update your page.

Non-profit organizations and open-source projects can email Instatus to ask for a free Pro account. Members of Secret, FounderPass, RocketHub or StartGround can apply for one year of Pro for free through the startups page.

Instatus referral and affiliate program

There is no promo code or sign-up discount for new customers: opening Instatus through our link simply credits the referral, and you pay the same prices as anyone else, including the free plan.

Instatus also runs a public affiliate program that anyone can apply to from its referrals page. The stated terms are 30% of what the customers you bring pay, for as long as they stay customers, with a 90-day window: if a visitor comes back within three months and upgrades, the sale is credited to you. The page does not state a payout method or minimum; those are shown after you join.

Limits and things to check

  • Free plan limits. 15 monitors with 2-minute checks, email-only alerts, 200 subscribers and no custom domain. Teams that need SMS alerts or a branded domain will need Pro.
  • Billing. Prices are listed in US dollars. We could not find a public refund policy on instatus.com, so check billing terms with support before paying for a year up front.
  • No regional or KYC limits are stated for customers; sign-up only needs an email or a Google account.
