What is Glossika?

Glossika is an online language course built around sentences rather than word lists or grammar drills. You hear a sentence in your base language and its translation recorded by native speakers, repeat it, and can record yourself to compare. Glossika's spaced repetition algorithm builds a daily review list of the sentences you are most at risk of forgetting.

There are two ways to train:

• Full-practice mode – reading, writing, speaking and listening exercises.
• Listening-only mode – hands-free sessions for commuting or chores. Glossika says an average session takes about ten minutes.

The catalog lists over 60 languages, including less common ones such as Kazakh, Uzbek and Icelandic. Nine minoritized languages are free without a subscription: Catalan, Gaelic, Hakka (Sixian), Hakka (Hailu), Kurdish (Sorani), Manx, Welsh, Taiwanese Taigi and Wenzhounese. Full-practice mode is still in development for some of them.

Who it's for

Glossika fits learners who already know some basics, or who are willing to learn by exposure, and whose main goal is speaking and listening comprehension.

It is less suited to someone who wants structured grammar lessons, writing systems taught from scratch, or a live tutor. Businesses, schools and families can ask about the Enterprise plan for managing several learners.

Glossika pricing at a glance

On annual billing the pricing page lists Basic at $13.33 per month and Pro at $25 per month. Basic lets you change your base and target language only once every 30 days. Pro lets you train as many languages as you want.

Verified students get 55% off: $8.99 per month for one language or $17.99 per month for all languages.

All charges are in USD. Prices shown in other currencies are converted with a daily exchange rate, so the final amount can move with your card's currency. Glossika accepts major credit and debit cards via Stripe. Seasonal sales such as Black Friday can lower the annual price for a limited time, so check the pricing page before you pay.

Referral bonus and refer-a-friend terms

New users who sign up through a referral link get a $5 discount when they subscribe. It applies to a paid plan, not the free trial.

Once you have an account, you can join the same refer-a-friend program from the Referrals menu in your account. Glossika describes it as sharing Glossika with friends and family to earn an extra discount. In the account dashboard, the referrer gets $10 of account credit for each referred user who subscribes, and three referrals add up to a free month.

Language-learning sites and blogs can instead join the Glossika affiliate program: 30% of a customer's first purchase within 30 days of a click, paid by PayPal once the balance reaches $100.

Cancellation and refunds

• Monthly plans renew automatically and can be cancelled at any time. Access continues until the end of the paid period, and the current month is final and non-refundable.
• Annual plans can be cancelled or downgraded within 60 days of purchase for a refund of the unused time. The refund is calculated at the standard monthly rate, $19.99 per month for Basic or $39.99 per month for Pro, not at the discounted annual rate. After 60 days there is no refund.
